Screening for microalbuminuria may prevent long-term cardiovascular complications

Microalbuminuria is widely recognized as marker of abnormal vascular function and has long been considered as the first indication of renal dysfunction in patients with diabetes. Accumulating evidence also suggests that microalbuminuria is associated with higher risk for cardiovascular and overall mortality, independently from traditional risk factors in the general population as well as in patients with other risk factors. Thus, screening for microalbuminuria is currently recommended for all patients with diabetes, it can also provide valuable information for all individuals at high cardiovascular risk.

HemoCue provides reliable and accurate test systems for blood glucose and quantitative screening for microalbuminuria at the point of care.
