World Health Organization (WHO) and International Diabetes Federation (IDF) originally established World Diabetes Day in 1991, in response to the growing concerns about the escalating threat posed by diabetes. In 2006, it became an official United Nations Day.
WDD is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 nations.
Activities at HemoCue
At HemoCue we highlight the World Diabetes with global and local activities:
- The color for the day is BLUE! We wear something blue to recognize this day. During the day we will take some pictures here in Ängelholm, but also in other HemoCue offices around the globe.
- Outside our canteen we have a table with fresh fruit, our glucose products on display, information about diabetes and a "guess the number of cuvettes" competition.
- We arrange a walk around the premises outside in the lovely Swedish autumn weather. Combining fresh air with some exercise during lunchtime.
