Many women suffer from anaemia, mainly due to pregnancy and heavy menstrual periods, bleeding fibroids or endometriosis. To detect the presence of anaemia, and assess its severity, measurement of haemoglobin is all that is required. By using the HemoCue® Haemoglobin system, the results are available while the patient is still present, and if anaemia is detected, sampling for additional laboratory tests can be performed during the same appointment. When the anaemia is due to nutritional deficiency, haemoglobin alone provides a sensitive indication of therapeutic response.
Gestational diabetes has been described as a hidden epidemic. It affects 2–5% of pregnant women, but, while treatable, it often remains undiagnosed. When screening for gestational diabetes, glucose measurements must be accurate and precise to ensure high sensitivity and specificity.
The HemoCue® Glucose systems, with its excellent accuracy and precision, can be used to screen for and diagnose gestational diabetes. Immediate analysis with HemoCue® eliminates errors due to glycolysis and increases patient assurance.
