Many women suffer from anaemia, mainly due to pregnancy and heavy menstrual periods, bleeding fibroids or endometriosis. To detect the presence of anaemia, and assess its severity, measurement of haemoglobin is all that is required. By using the HemoCue^® Haemoglobin system, the results are available while the patient is still present, and if anaemia is detected, sampling for additional laboratory tests can be performed during the same appointment. Gestational diabetes has been described as a hidden epidemic. It affects 2–5% of pregnant women, but, while treatable, it often remains undiagnosed. When screening for gestational diabetes, glucose measurements must be accurate and precise to ensure high sensitivity and specificity.
