Hemoglobin Testing
Many
women suffer from anemia, mainly due to pregnancy and heavy menstrual
periods, bleeding fibroids or endometriosis. To detect the presence of
anemia, and assess its severity, measurement of hemoglobin is all that
is required. By using the HemoCue® Hemoglobin system, the results are
available while the patient is still present, and if anemia is detected,
sampling for additional laboratory tests can be performed during the
same appointment. When the anemia is due to nutritional deficiency,
hemoglobin alone provides a sensitive indication of therapeutic
response.
Gestational diabetes has been described as a hidden epidemic. It affects 2–5% of pregnant women, but, while treatable, it often remains undiagnosed. When screening for gestational diabetes, glucose measurements must be accurate and precise to ensure high sensitivity and specificity.
The HemoCue® Glucose systems, with its excellent accuracy and precision, can be used to screen for and diagnose gestational diabetes. Immediate analysis with HemoCue® eliminates errors due to glycolysis and increases patient assurance.
