The fundamental concept behind the HemoCue products is to perform common blood and urine tests at the point-of-care without sacrificing the accuracy and precision offered by a central clinical lab.   The two inventors of the HemoCue system, Sven-Erik Nilsson and Jan Lilja started the work with the cuvette concept already in 1974. Still, our systems are based on patented cuvette technology, unique reagent chemistry and analyte-specific instruments. The systems do not require mixing of reagents, dispensing, or pipetting. HemoCue has been on the market for more than 25 years and is the company behind the original cuvette technology. HemoCue is truly a pioneer in near patient testing, and the +25-year horizon we can now point to, is a powerful confirmation of this. The first HemoCue Hemoglobin system was sold the 26th of October 1982 to the Primary Care Centre in Hässleholm, Sweden. Today we have products measuring hemoglobin, glucose in whole blood, albumin in urine and white blood cell count, and have delivered around 250 000 analyzers all around the world.
