With over 5,000 domestic and international attendees, the AABB Annual Meeting attracted CEOs and medical directors, laboratory supervisors and administrators, transfusion specialists, cellular therapy and blood banking professionals, medical technologists, donor recruiters, physicians and nurses.
The meeting was kicked off at the opening session with the Nobel-prize winning physician, writer and humanitarian activist James Orbinski. Dr. Orbinski accepted the 1999 Nobel Peace Price on behalf of the Médicins Sans Frontiéres (Doctors Without Borders) for its pioneering humanitarian work on several continents.
With nearly 200 companies on display, the exhibition hall showcased the latest news in advanced technology, devices and services.
In addition to the general AABB program, HemoCue also sponsored the Patient Blood Management Workshop and a Vendor Showcase held on Friday October 21st. This all-day workshop included current strategies in PBM presented by leading experts from various disciplines in health care. The content covered subjects related to anemia management, alternatives to blood components and evidence from latest PBM research.
